Acquiescence and the factorial interpretation of the MMPI.

The influence of acquiescence and desirability as possible response determinants on the MMPI is annotated in a survey of recent experiments. The role of acquiescence is considered in detail by noting a high correlation between loadings on the largest MMPI factor and the proportion of items keyed “true” on each scale. All available factor analyses of the MMPI were reviewed, and the finding of consistently high correlations, four above .85, suggests that acquiescence is a major source of variance on the MMPI.
