Towards a Formalization of Individual Work Execution at Computer Workplaces

To better understand, analyze, and support work execution at computer workplaces, this paper presents a framework of ontologies. We analyze knowledge work at computer workplaces as weaklystructured processes by means of activity theory. Based on the analysis, we extend a set of upper ontologies to model the computer workplace and the process of work execution. We especially reflect the process of tool selection involved in work execution by a hierarchical analysis of involved planning activities and software tools, enabling a plan realization.
