Manic-depressive illness and HLA.

One-hundred-and-eighteen cases of manic-depressive illness, subclassified into 68 unipolars and 50 bipolars, were typed for HLA-A and B. Both groups showed the same antigen frequencies, with the exception of a slight increase of HLA-B15 in bipolar patients. The incidence of HLA-Bw15 was reduced in affectively ill patients as compared to controls.
