Language grid toolbox: Open source multi-language community site

Language Grid Toolbox is a series of intercultural collaboration tools, which can be easily accessed through a Web browser. A multilingual community can build their own community site using Language Grid Toolbox. In this demonstration, we first show some basic functions of Language Grid Toolbox, including Text Translation, Multilingual BBS and Multilingual Dictionary Creation. Using Text Translation, users can translate contents multilingually and confirm the translation result with back-translation. Users can also click any part of a sentence to highlight it and its translation/back-translation results. Multilingual BBS lets users communicate with each other in their native language since its contents are translated multilingually by language services on the Language Grid. When a document to be translated contains community-specific terms, users can improve translation quality by creating a community dictionary using Multilingual Dictionary Creation and combining it with a machine translator. The source code of Language Grid Toolbox is open under GPL. Therefore a multilingual community can customize functions of Toolbox based on their requirements. To make the cutomization easier, Language Grid Toolbox offers APIs of basic functions. A municipality and a university have developed new tools specialized for their needs using the APIs. We also show the customized functions in this demonstration.
