RFID based systematic livestock health management system

Nowadays many farmers have adopted various means in the context of good farming practices to ensure the health of their livestock in good condition and healthy. Failure to ensure the health of livestock would cause to the death of animals and lead to decreased in productivity. Conventional methods by incorporating livestock data information on paper is a huge waste of time and not safe, therefore not effective for a good farming practiced. Hence, the electronic-based livestock management systems are needed to help farmers and livestock veterinary to share information for the purpose of early prevention of dangerous diseases from infected their livestock. In this project, the extensively use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for livestock health management in the preparation of animal profile has created a fast and efficient method, but several conditions have to be set such as the RFID frequency selection and numbers of livestock in the farms. In current practice, even though the RFID systems in animal rearing is not a new approach, but this project has successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of RFID technology comes to solve daily problems on farms. In developing this monitoring system, web-based application platform likes MySQL, Apache and JSP has been used in an integrated methods for reporting and recording of livestock health records. Furthermore, Java programming act as a script, MySQL as database and NetBeans IDE 7.2 is used for the development of the whole system. In order to ensure this system development costs can be reduced as much as possible, the RFID Based Livestock Health Management System was built using open source software. The use of laptops and portable RFID reader has made farmers easier to access their livestock health information in real time and then can be shared to the other interested parties.
