A systems modelling approach was used to evaluate the effect of forward leaning on dynamlc postural responses at the ankle. Perturbations were applied as random antero-posterior acceleratlons of a platform on whlch the subject stood, and responses were characterized In terms of centerst-pre8sure displacement. Subjects wore o restraint system whlch limited motion to the ankle joint Unear system ldent~lcatlon methods were used to estlmate InpWoutput models of the response dynamics. Preliminary results suggest that forward leaning results in a substantial stiffening of the postural ankle dynamics.
