Material transfer recording.

A material transfer technique for image recording is being developed that uses a focused laser beam to transfer ink from a substrate to a recording medium. No other processing is required; the recording is formed and developed merely by transfer and is instantly available for readout. This article relates some of the observed phenomena associated with transfer recording, discusses several test procedures directed toward the establishment of writing rate capabilities, presents the available test data, and offers suggested physical models to explain the observed transfer action.
