A novel approach to nine switch unified power quality conditioner for power quality improvement

The major problem incorporated in the distribution system is the power quality problem. Now a day, power quality problems have been mitigated with the help of custom power devices. In this work, a novel approach to nine switch Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) is used instead of conventional twelve switch power conditioner which reduces the switching stress, less commutation, low losses with less cost. This nine switch UPQC acts as two back to back converter as a shunt and series filter. The control scheme used for the nine switch converter has been done by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique. The performances were analyzed using MATLAB Simulink environment for linear and non linear loads.
