The present invention discloses a method and system for reporting extra measurement result. The method comprises: a base station notifies a terminal whether to report the extra measurement result; according to the notice of the base station, the terminal sorts all the cells on the present frequency in a predetermined order, selects the best cell on the present frequency according to the sorting result, then reports the extra measurement result. With the present invention, the base station can control whether the terminal reports the extra measurement result, thereby reducing the odds for the terminal to report the extra measurement result, and reducing the cost of the system.
