A Scoring Tool for Electronic Paper Exams

In this paper we present a scoring tool for electronic paper exams. Digital ink written by students in exams is captured and then sent to the Paper Architecture server. There the ink is segmented and processed. We have taken a hybrid approach for scoring. Selection questions are automatically recognized and scored. For free text answering we have developed an interface that allows teachers to correct them interactively. The interface uses question reorganization and empty questions marking to reduce the marking time. An evaluation experiment comparing the exam marking by hand and by using the tool showed considerable reduction of the scoring time when using the tool.
