WIND LOADING AND RELIABILITY-BASED DESIGN

The implementation of second-moment formats for the design of wind-sensitive structures requires the clarification of a number of questions which are investigated in this paper. These include: the dependence of reliability-based criteria upon type of extreme wind distribution; the influence upon such criteria of sampling and observation errors in the estimation of extreme winds, as well as of errors in the estimation of aerodynamic and structural parameters; the dependence of member safety upon wind climate; and the validity of linear approximations to the expression for the load factor.
