Reproductive tract infections in pregnant women

OBJECTIVE To study the prevalence of reproductive tract infections(RTI) in pregnant women in Wuxi,so as to safeguard the health of the mothers and infants.METHODS The cervical or vaginal secretions from 1117 pregnant women were collected and examined for RTI.RESULTS The overall prevalence rate of RTI in the 1117 pregnant women in Wuxi was 37.5%;the prevalence rate of Mycoplasma vaginitis was 16.2%,Chlamydia trachomatis vaginitis 0.8%,Trichomoniasis vaginitis 1.8%,bacterial vaginitis 3.7%,Neisseria gonorrhoeae 0.4%,Syphilis 1.3%,Vulvovaginal candidiasis(VVC) 13.3%.Statistically significances were observed in the detection rates of Chlamydia trachomatis vaginitis,Trichomoniasis vaginitis and Syphilis comparing pregnant women with varied census registrations,professions or education background(P0.05).CONCLUSION The prevalence of RTI in pregnant women is relatively high in Wuxi.It is necessary to pay attention to the routinely screening of RTI in pregnant women.
