GPAHRS – New Building Block to Enhance Safety and Availability of Future Aircraft Navigation

As a contribution to European Union (EU) Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking (CS2 JU; Horizon 2020 program), Honeywell has integrated, experimentally tested and validated new hybrid navigation system called GPAHRS (GPS-aided Attitude and Heading Reference System). For most navigation parameters, the system meets the required levels of navigation performance for nextgeneration aeronautics systems expressed in terms of accuracy, integrity, continuity, and availability of navigation information. Though developed for the class of Large Passenger Aircraft (LPA), the system is equally suited for air-traffic/regional as well as business jets platforms. The prototype has been validated through a large flight-test campaign performed under the Clean Sky 2 Large Passenger Aircraft (LPA) Platform 3 project. The campaign itself (more than 130 flight hours in total) was focused on business jets (Dassault Falcon 900EX) in various flight test scenarios. The paper provides an overview of the GPAHRS system itself, its integration within the Flight Test Bed (FTB) equipment, its performance (in terms of accuracy and integrity) and validation results obtained during the campaign.
