Model-based diagnosis of power-station control systems

An automated control system monitors a system and automatically eliminates faults, but such control systems are themselves subject to failures. SEPT (Suivi d'Evenements dans les Postes du Transport), a functioning knowledge-based system for diagnosing control systems in extra-high-voltage power networks, examines both systems to give two kinds of output: a synthetic diagnostic conclusion and a model-based explanation. The two output steps-diagnosis and explanation-are complementary. The first gives a rapid synthesis based on the recorded signal events, while the second supplies a deeper causal account of the events and their effects.<<ETX>>
