Development of a Finite Element Method Mode Solver Application for Optical Waveguides

Finite Element Method constitutes one of the most powerful numerical methods when there is need for approximate solutions of a problem. In this work an application with a user-friendly graphical interface, developed in Matlab, is presented which facilitates the calculation and graphical presentation of the propagation constants and modes of various types of optical waveguides using FEM. To check the validity of our simulations the results have been compared with those presented in the literature. General Terms Computing methodologies, Modeling and simulation.
