Magnetic Field Investigation of Mars by Interacting Consortia

The primary MIMIC science objective is to obtain a global data set of remnant crustal magnetic field measurements at high-resolution to provide a more complete understanding of the evolution and internal dynamics of Mars. We will also perform a magnetic field and thermal plasma characterization of the ionosphere and solar wind interaction regions at Mars. A major task in Command & Data Handling will be to create a suitable data margin. The data collected must be sent down quickly which will create a minimal chance of error to occur. If there is a disruption in communication, then we will be able to store more data by compressing it. To minimize the risk of straining our data capacity, which is 256 Mb, is another reason why data collected must be compressed. This will be accomplished by using lossless compression algorithms.
