OPTIMAL TRAFFIC CONTROL FOR AUTOMATED RAILWAY SYSTEMS

Abstract Summarily, this paper deals with an optimal control of trains which operate with close headways on automated high-performance, short-haul rapid transit systems. In detail, the operations control system has to fulfil functions as train headway protection subject to an interspacing rule, overspeed detection, proposition of nominal speed profile designed with respect to the standard schedule, and optimal controlling train speeds on-line. In cases of faults and inconsistencies it has to reorganize operations, too. Per calculation of the optimal trajectories of a suitable performance functional there is indicated the associate adaptive control which requires integration into the operational control system. As input information the optimal regulator requires solely actual values which are already on hand for headway protection. The policies developped are tested and proved with the aid of suitable simulation models. The achieved result yielded a harmonic, energy-saving train running even in cases of disturbances
