She received her B.A. in mathematics from the University of Montana, Missoula, in 1969. Following 2 years of graduate study in mathematics at the University of Montana, she worked for 2 summers for Northern Region Fire and Aviation Management. In 1978, she began work at the Intermountain Fire Sciences Laboratory and is a member of the fire behavior research work unit.
