Electrochemical growth of iron and cobalt arborescences under a magnetic field: A TEM study

TEM observations of iron and cobalt arborescences grown by electrodeposition were performed. In the limited range of external parameters allowing the growth of such arborescences, the morphology at the nanometric scale is dendritic, and single crystalline dendrites are observed as long as 2 ?m. The crystallographic structure of the dendrites is examined in detail. A magnetic field was applied during the growth, either parallel or normal to the plane of growth. Its effects on the morphology at the nanometric scale and on the crystallographic structure are analyzed.
