Optimized network layer protocol with cross layer handshaking mechanism in MANET

Due to the rapid acceleration of computing technology in internet, billions of hosts are to be successfully handled by the network layer of TCP/IP Protocol suite during data communication. Design of a highly efficient and consistent protocol at IP service layer along with managing heterogeneous sub networks having multiple technology is a challenging task. In this paper we present reliable network layer protocol with optimized delay and power for Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET) based on the Concept of Adhoc On demand Distance Vector Routing(AODV). Though many such type of protocols have been developed for MANET Routing, but our approach is different in a way that it calculates the threshold value as a function of Power Consumption, Bounded Delay and Packet Processing rate of the node to be selected for packet forwarding towards destination in a load balanced way instead of the shortest path and secondly a cross layer mechanism has been introduced with handshaking between data link layer and network layer to reduce the overhead of network layer during route finding by reducing power consumption. The proposed protocol improves throughput in data transmission with guaranteed packet delivery and minimum bandwidth. Performance of the proposed protocol is evaluated using ns2 simulator and comparative analysis of this protocol has been done with other leading network layer protocols.
