Optimal positioning of superconducting fault current limiter in smart grid applications

This paper presents a study to determine the optimal Location of a superconducting fault-current limiter (SFCL). The introduction of new generating facilities by independent power producers and increasing load demand can result in increased fault current. Due to the grid connection of the micro grids with the current power grids, excessive fault current is a serious problem to be solved for successful implementation of micro grids with SFCL. In this work a resistive superconducting fault current limiter designed. To reduce the fault current in the micro grid the designed SFCL placed in proposed system, which consists of a conventional power plant and 10MVA wind farm. The effect of SFCL on the micro grid, and optimal position for SFCL to get more reduction percentage of wind farm faults current.
