Partial Information Filters

Abstract Matched filter (MF) is well known to yield the highest output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) among all possible linear time-invariant filters. However, the matched filter takes on complex values and can he difficult to implement in some technologies. As a result, several partial-information versions of the matched filter (e.g., phase-only filter, binary phase-only filter, etc.) have been introduced. This paper provides a concise introduction to these filters.
