Suppression of temperature oscillations of thermal Marangoni convection in a floating zone by superimposing of rotating flows

Abstract Temperature oscillations in a floating zone causally connected with the oscillatory thermal Marangoni convection can be suppressed by superimposing suitable rotating flows induced by single- or iso-rotation of the both coaxial disks which represent the upper and lower solid boundaries of the floating zone. By experiments the appropriate range for the interaction of the different rotating flows with the Marangoni convection are found in which the resulting flows become steady and the temperature oscillations consequently disappear.
