Arbitrary Skewing Schemes for Trees

Skewing schemes for d-dimensional arrays as studied in chapter 2 and chapter 3 received considerable attention in the literature. The reason is that d-dimensional arrays are at the basis of many scientific computations. However, for non-numerical computation trees are fundamental and nothing seems to be known about the possibilities of “skewing” such data structures. In this chapter and chapter 5 we want to initiate a study of skewing schemes for trees.
