Outdoor radiated emission associated with power line communications systems

We study the radiations due to the injection of power line communications (PLC) signals from the frequency range 1 MHz - 30 MHz on a low voltage (LV) underground cable. We have developed an original model to characterize the radiations in a common mode propagation approach. We present simulation results of this model based on the antenna theory implemented using the method of moments. The Numerical Electromagnetic Code (NEC4) has been used to simulate this model. Our numerical results are validated using experimental data. We finally deal with the polarization of the propagating waves, the soil characteristics influence and some interesting notes concerning the attenuation of the electromagnetic fields.
