Effect of shape of workpiece on forming force in fine blanking process

Abstract Fine blanking produces smooth sheared edges over the full workpiece thickness in a single operation allowing the required cutting edge quality and dimensional accuracy to be obtained without secondary machining. There are various parameters with different adjustment levels, affecting the fine blanking surface. In this paper, the effect of the shape of workpiece on forming force in fine blanking process was studied by theoretical formulation and experimental approach. Two workpieces with the same thickness and different shapes were considered in this research. The theoretical formulation was used as a tool to carry out the predication of fine blanking force. The obtained results indicated that by increasing the shape of the workpiece, the forces in fine blanking process are increased.
