CADEXCAP: Integration of 2D CAD models of turned components with CAPP

EXCAP is a knowledge-based process-planning system for turned components. This paper describes a software package called CADEXCAP, which has been developed to integrate EXCAP and CAD systems via IGES. CADEXCAP deciphers a full 2 D model of a turned component developed on a CAD system and then, via IGES, fully automatically generates a product model in the EXCAP model format. It is clever enough to extract not only the geometrical information but also the other required information, such as geometrical and dimensional tolerances, surface finish and manufacturing instructions.
