Localization and identification of corona forms based on phase-resolved images

In this paper, the detection of a corona effect based on phase-resolved images is studied. An advanced method for localization and identification of defects occurring in high voltage (HV) overhead lines and substation power equipment is presented. Under the laboratory conditions phase-resolved images of discharges, generated at certain spots within the HV transmission line, were registered. Those spots represented defects existing in the real environment and they were sources of additional corona discharges. Results indicated that phase-resolved images of corona interference are well correlated to a special kind of defect occurring within the HV overhead lines, as well as within substation power equipment.
