Time resolved depolarization of multiple backscattered light from random media

Abstract The temporal intensity distributions for parallel and perpendicular polarization components of a 100 fs laser pulse backscattered from various random media were measured and analyzed. The temporal profiles for polarization components from media with finite particles sizes may be approximated by the theoretical formulation in the Rayleigh scattering limit. A substantial amount of polarization remains for media of low concentration and larger particle size.
