A horizon shifting model of linguistic hedges for approximate reasoning

In this paper, we return to the problem of modeling of the linguistic hedges. We propose a simple solution which seems to be fitting all the intuitive requirements imposed also by linguists. Moreover, it extends the possibilities of the fuzzy set theory to include a quite wide variety of hedges and to aggregate them into one class of membership functions. We obtain a parametric class of membership functions based on the idea of shifting the horizon which can be used in all applications of approximate reasoning and namely in fuzzy control.
