STEEL FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETE IN INDUSTRIAL FLOORS

Steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) for industrial floors on grade is now in common use, and provides a large data base of practical experience with the material. Standards for characterizing the properties of SFRC are discussed. Three large scale research programs on slabs of SFRC are reviewed. These studies show that toughness determines the load-bearing capacity of slabs on grade. However, there is uncertainty in the area of the design of these floors. Also, it is found that the classical elastic theory offers no apporpirate solution for determining the thickness of steel fiber reinforced floors.
