Goal based mission planning for remotely piloted air vehicles (RPAVs)

The role of the remotely piloted air vehicle in the battlefield environment for both intelligence gathering and lethal intervention is growing. To make maximal use of the RPAV, its operator interface must be equal to tasks formerly performed exclusively by human beings. This has been achieved with a prototypical mission management system developed by combining conventional and artificial intelligence computing techniques, demonstrating that it is possible to produce near-human-quality results in a fraction of the time required by humans performing similar tasks. AI software technologies are sufficiently mature to permit their application to the specific needs of an RPAV workstation.<<ETX>>
