The modelling and analysis of splices used in synthetic ropes

The analysis of eye splices used in synthetic rope is considered by categorizing splice geometries and then developing the modelling for each type. The three splices considered are those originally used in wire ropes and now applied to six–round–one aramid ropes; the splices are the long––or transmission––splice, the Admiralty splice and the Liverpool splice. The geometry of each type is analysed and then applied, to determine the load capacity for each type. The internal friction and contact forces are also discussed.
