Life Prediction Method of Large Oil Storage Tanks In-service Based on Foundation Settlement Monitor

To improve safety performance of large oil storage tanks in-service,it is supposed that fatigue failures mainly result from the stress concentration of shell-to-bottom fillet welds. Then,a new finite element computation model for the simulation of the interaction between bottom plates and foundation was introduced. Also, the stress numerical computing method of bottom plates was given.Based on this method, the detailed steps of computing the peak stress of shell-to-bottom fillet welds from the testing values of foundation settlements can be obtained, and the residual life of large oil storage tank can also be calculated, which provide a reference for safety assessment of large oil storage tanks.
