Incorrect corrections to the ECPSSR theory

It is argued that modifications suggested by Cohen and Harrigan (1985) in a recent treatment of the ECPSSR theory for direct inner-shell ionisation by Brandt and Lapicki (1979) are not needed. The ECPSSR theory accounts for the projectile energy loss (E) and Coulomb deflection (C) as well as the perturbed-stationary-state (PSS) and relativistic (R) effects in the treatment of target inner shells. In fact, it is demonstrated that an insertion of a relativistic mass factor in the argument of the energy loss function results in more than a factor of two disagreement with ab initio calculations of the energy loss function.
