Self-grooming in Diplodactylus spinigerus (Reptilia: Gekkonidae), with a brief review of such behaviour in reptiles

The Australian gecko Diplodactylus spinigerus exhibits unusual self-grooming behaviour. This small lizard licks excess defensive secretion off the surface of its tail without any apparent ill effects. The occurrence of self-grooming in reptiles is discussed and compared with other lingual behaviour.
