Strength of a composite material for structural applications

Conclusions1.An equation was derived for the strength of the composite in the absence of the monolithic part of the filler. Depending on the state of the filler-binder boundary, the mean strength of the fibers in the composite varies from the strength of the fiber in the bundle whose length is equal to the length of the specimen, to the strength of the bundle whose length is equal to the ″ineffective″ length of the fiber in the composite.2.An experimental method was proposed for evaluating the amount of the filler in the composite with the disrupted contact between the filler and the binder; the method is based on the capillary saturation phenomenon.3.The function taking into account the nonsimultaneous rupture of the fibers was introduced into the strength equation of the composite.
