LIGHT WEIGHT CRYPTOGRAPHIC ALGORITHMS:A SURVEY

Already present classical cryptosystems only meet the requirements of desktop computing epoch. As an alternative light weight cryptographic(LWC) algorithms are designed to overcome the limitations of classical cryptosystems which provides trade off among security, cost and performance. The implementation of light weight cryptographic algorithms is done in a way to lower power consumption & area requirements so that it becomes suitable for resource constrained devices such as RFID tags and wireless sensor nodes. This paper comes out with various LWC algorithms that are classified into stream ciphers, block ciphers and hybrid model. The hybrid model of Hummingbird is also explained and compared with other LWC algorithms.
