The current seismic design spectrum in Korea have been determined based design spectrum of UBC(Uniform Building Code) derived particularly from western United States of the region of strong seismicity. Therefor, the current Korean seismic design spectrum is required to be modified considering earthquake characteristics and soil conditions in Korea. In this paper, response spectrum using the observed ground motion from the recent five earthquakes more than M 3.5 were analysed and then were compared to the Korean Standard Design Response Spectrum. 134 ground motions, without considering soil type, were used for normalization with respect to the peak acceleration value of each ground motions. For the response spectrum ,the result showed higher values for short period than design response spectrum. But, the results in long periods revealed very smaller than design response spectrum. Hence, design reponse spectrum should be considered significantly for such the results.
