Experimental Confirmation of Speed and Air Gap Control with Only Linear Induction Motor for Levitation

This paper introduces a maglev transportation system that is a levitation system runs with only a linear induction motor (LIM). We propose a propulsion and levitation control with only LIM with two frequency components acting simultaneously and independently. One of the frequency component controls propulsion. The other frequency component controls levitation. Therefore, this proposed control method simplifies the controller. We verified the motor speed and air gap control performance to keep the air gap constant. As a result, the proposed system can control the motor speed and air gap simultaneously and independently.
