Corrosion taining; cost in many of corrosion implementing has systems not been control, because and controlled but of mainthe anin many systems because of the cost of implementing and maint i ing; corrosi n control, but a other more basic problem has been the difficulty involved in developing a comprehensive control strategy. AWWA has recently published the Rothberg, Tamburini & Winsor (RTW) Model for Corrosion Control and Process Chemistry.* The model is a microcomputer spreadsheetbased tool developed to provide the same information as Caldwell-Lawrence (C-L) diagrams regarding pH and CaCC>3 equilibrium. The same chemical principles are used, and the two methods provide the same results. To overcome the drawbacks of the C-L diagrams, however, the model provides a numerical solution based on a specific user's water characteristics and can quicly analyze alternatives. Multiple chemicals can be evaluated simultaneously.
