Rationale and technique for occlusal equilibration

Abstract The four basic philosophies of occlusion have been discussed. Certain areas of agreement and conflict have been pointed out with an interpretation of existing information. A rationale has been given for the selection of bilateral balanced occlusion for complete dentures and unilateral (working side) contact for fixed restorations. A technique of occlusal equilibration that is used to implement these objectives has been presented in simplified form.
