Dynamic Reanalysis and Component Mode Synthesis to Improve Aircraft Modeling for Loads Calculation

This paper investigates the possibility of creating an enriched reduction basis able to represent a certain structure even after design changes. This is particularly useful in case of performing what-if studies in preliminary design. The idea of using Component Mode Synthesis (CMS) as reduction method and ways of improvement are investigated. The use of the Combined Approach reanalysis method for a faster but still refined evaluation of the modes of the substructure subjected to design changes is suggested. As application, a Design and Engineering Engine developed for the optimization and the redesign of the vertical tail of an existing aircraft is used.
