On characterizing multiple access interference in TH-UWB systems with impulsive noise models

The Gaussian mixture distribution, the Middleton class A noise model and the Laplace distribution are used for approximately characterizing the statistics of the multiple access interference in time-hopping ultra-wideband communication systems. The similarities and differences of these approximations are discussed and the validities of these models are assessed in terms of the probability density function of the interference and the bit error rate performance.
