Transferring (50) of the motor vehicle component (140) in a degraded configuration as an adequate reaction, wherein the degraded configuration having a more limited range of functions, as in the previous configuration. And if the transfer (50) of the motor vehicle component (140) in the degraded configuration is not possible, the method further comprises a transfer (52) of the motor vehicle component (140) in a secure configuration as an adequate response to. The secure configuration in the motor vehicle component (140) is held. The invention further relates to a corresponding device (400) and a respective motor vehicle (100).
