6–10 ] are high cost and scarce on the planet. Therefore, application of the CdTe and CIGS technologies to mitigate the global energy demand with PV may become unaffordable in the future. In order to achieve the goal of a cost effective and environmentally friendly long term sustainable PV technology, we chose to explore novel and earth-abundant materials. These materials are abundant, low cost, and amenable to high-throughput electrochemical methods of manufacturing. They are, therefore, good candidates for achieving energy conversion on the TW scale.
