Optimum System-Level Design of ∆ Σ Modulators B . 1 Comparator offset

A successful ∆Σ converter design at a systemlevel implies a good understanding of the performance degrading nonidealities of the building blocks. An overview of these nonidealities is given in this paper together with an approach to optimally select the best suited topology for a certain set of performance requirements (dynamic range, signal bandwidth) based on a relative power merit. A dedicated simulator written in C is presented. Among its advantages are a clear overview of the simulations by means of a graphical user interface and a fast execution due to behavioral descriptions of the building blocks combined with compiled C code. Examples of nonideal parameter sweeps will be shown as well as of system-level design of ∆Σ modulators. Keywords—High Level Design, Delta-Sigma Converters, Systematic Design, Delta-Sigma Simulator
