Activity-dependent neural network development

Fleclrical activity plays a pivaal role in Ihe development of neumns into functiooal neural networks. Besides changes in synaptic strength, many other processes m activity- dependent They in8mce neuronal fuaction and connectivity, on multiple time scales as well as on multiple levels of specificity, boIh during development and in adulthood A number of these processes axe reviewed here, together with some simulation models. Their relevance for the cmnl thinking about neural networks is discussed.
