Comparison of Mathematical Models for Transient Stability between PSD-BPA and PSS/E

Both PSD-BPA and PSS/E are simulation programs, and the former is introduced and developed by China Electric Power Research Institute while the latter is developed by Siemens PTI (Power Technologies International). This paper analyzes and compares the mathematical models for transient stability in PSD-BPA and PSS/E, and calculates examples of a 3 machine and 9 bus AC system and an actual AC/DC system in China Southern Power Grid on power flow and transient stability with the two software respectively.The results of the analysis and calculation show that the conclusions of PSD-BPA and PSS/E are almost the same.
