DEVELOPING DRIVING SCENARIOS FOR RESEARCH, TRAINING AND CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

This paper demonstrates how the Stisim drive driving simulator can be enhanced in order to generate complex traffic situations. The enhancing module was successfully used to run an experiment on a traffic related assistance system. It enabled the subjects to experience the functionability of such a system and allowed them to study their behavior in a complex traffic environment. Future developments within the traffic module will be derived from the situational needs of the research experiments of driver assistance. This may include a higher degree of reaction to the current road geometry like slope, curvature and friction, which can be incorporated inside the microscopic vehicle models.
